Wulguru wary of another finals fade-out

Robinson admitted his side was “quite fortunate” to overcome Ingham, but the results mean Wulguru has moved three points clear of Saints Eagles Souths with one round left to play.

“It was one of those games that had the potential to trip us up,” Robinson said.

“I don’t think Ingham have won a game all year, but every game we’ve played them has been close. Whenever they’re close to a full-strength side they’re a tough team to beat.

“When we were down 1-0 at halftime it really had that feeling like it might not be our night, but we just stuck to our own game plan and in the end managed to scrape through.”

Wulguru’s last regular-season game against Burdekin on Sunday night could still be a dead rubber if Saints Eagles Souths can’t claim the three points against Rebels on Saturday.

Robinson said he’d prefer not to have the pressure of a must-win game given they’ll be without seven players, but he also stressed the importance of momentum heading into the finals.
