LIFE’S GOOD FOR YOUNG MATES

YEARS of singing paid off for Zara Scovazzi, 8, and Sari Oar, 7, who won the under-12 novelty vocal duet at the Townsville Eisteddfod.

The pair, the youngest duo competing in the category, sang It’s a Hard Knock Life

from the classic musical Annie.

“Me and Sari each got two trophies. I really like singing, because I can really sell my voice,” Zara said.

“I had to get dressed up as an orphan. My grandma, Frances Venturato, made (the outfit).”

Zara, of Home Hill, has been singing since she was 3½ years old.

She and Sari are students of St Francis Catholic School and both have lessons at Perform Music in Ayr.

Zara’s mother, Katheryn Scovazzi, said it was the first duet the girls had performed at an eisteddfod.

“They light up the stage together. I just think they have so much fun when they’re singing together,” she said.

Sari, of Ayr, said Zara was one of her best friends and

Annie was one of her favourite musicals.

She said the win after a lot of hard work.

“I worked really hard with my music teacher Amaia Licciardel­lo,” Sari said.

“I wore some stockings and I was wearing a shirt, long socks and a dress. I wore it to look like an orphan.”

Sari’s mother, Chiara Oar, said she was “very proud” to see the two girls win.

Zara also won the novelty solo when she sang Get Back up Again from animated movie Troll. while Sari came second for her rendition of

Supercalif­ragilistic­expialidoc­ious. Zara came third in the Age 5 to 8 classical solo, singing Listen to the Rain.

The Townsville Eisteddfod runs until September 27. came
