Proposal for new service station, shop

- TESS IKONOMOU

A NEW service station featuring a car wash, convenience store and dog wash bays is being proposed for a “growing” Townsville suburb.

Milford Planning has lodged a development application on behalf of Wessel Petroleum Pty Ltd with Townsville City Council for the proposal at Mount Low Parkway and Lynwood Ave, Bushland Beach.

The development plan for the service station includes five double-sided fuel bowsers capable of refilling up to 10 vehicles at any time and dog wash and vacuum bays.

“Complementing the service station, will be a car wash facility with one large car wash bay, four standard car wash bays (two auto and two manual) and a plant and office area,” the application said.

“There will be two dog wash bays, and two vacuum bays … four carparking spaces will be provided.”

The proposal involves the subdivision of the existing lot into one large lot and a small lot. The first lot will be 23,458.77 sqm and house the service station and car wash facilities.

Division 2 Councillor Paul Jacob said the service station would help people living in Bushland Beach who have to drive to other suburbs to refuel.

“It’s definitely one of the best things that can happen in Bushland Beach as people here coming home have got to travel 7km before they can get to a service station,” Cr Jacob said.

“The closest service stations would be in Burdell and Deeragun.

“It’s still a growing suburb, I believe one of the best suburbs in Townsville to live in, and to have access to that facility where you’d be able to fill up coming from or going to work will be very welcomed.”

Milford Planning was contacted for comment.
