Intense workouts get results Gym patrons fit to laugh

- ELISABETH SILVESTER

IF you are looking to shake up your training plan, Tamie Buchanan just might have the answer to your mundane workouts.

With more than 10 years’ experience in the fitness industry, Ms Buchanan specialises in the fun workout craze, ZUU Fitness.

“It is high-intensity training but low impact because it is body-weighted exercise and is very effective,” she said.

“As it is a bodyweighted exercise, it is created for anyone at any fitness levels from learners right up to elite athletes.”

Ms Buchanan said laughter was good for the soul and going to the gym did not have to be so serious and she made sure her clients enjoyed their time.

“I encourage my clients to let go and be a bit silly so that’s why we play fun fitness games and I don’t think as adults we laugh and smile enough,” she said.

Opening Tambition Fitness Personal Training two years ago, Ms Buchanan said many people did not achieve their fitness goals from gym sessions alone, so she provided aftercare support to her clients.

“I’m just constantly checking up on my clients because accountability and support is huge,” she said.

“It is (an) all around thing because I can just train them for an hour but they go home and go back to the old habits so you need to support them to stay on track.”

The former administration worker has transformed her house to accommodate her home-based gym and said simply standing on scales was not an accurate portrayal of people’s fitness progress.

“Everyone is set on the number on the scales and I discourage that because there are lots of other ways to measure your progress like the way you feel, your energy, your skin glow and how your clothes fit,” she said.

Ms Buchanan said she practised everything that she preached and treated her body like a temple, cutting out junk food and eating only fresh ingredients.

“I watch what I put in my mouth, nutrition is the most important thing and staying in tune with your body,” she said.

“I eat foods that give you energy, really simple fruit and vegies, lean meats, nothing high in sugar and good fats.”

Ms Buchanan said the great advantage of embarking on a fitness journey were the results and transformation people achieved from being healthy.

“You have a better quality of life, energy and overall happiness,” she said.

“I love exercise myself, it is really good for mental health and just an all-round winner.”
