Get in quickly for Oonoonba

CORELOGIC has revealed the Townsville suburbs where property is selling the quickest, with houses in Oonoonba topping the list for the least amount of days on the market.

Houses in the area sold after a median of just 23 days in the year to June, Corelogic data found.

Keys & Co Realty agent Tess Sellwood has recently sold a property at 1/7 Frederick St in Oonoonba and said the suburb ticked a lot of boxes for young buyers.

“I think the proximity to the city is a major selling point for buyers,” Ms Sellwood said.

“Value for money in the suburb is also exceptional and that attracts a lot of firsthome buyers.

“Majority of that Oonoonba pocket toward the city end, remained high and dry in the floods, which is another factor that appeals to people.”

Iris Chaillon and her husband recently purchased a property in Oonoonba after wanting to relocate from a high-set house to a low-set home with yard space.

“I love the area, it’s a very comfortable place to live,” Ms Chaillon said. “It’s so close to everything and when the stadium starts up we’ll only be five minutes away from that as well. Bunnings is just down the road and the traffic isn’t too bad at all.” live. Prices are still considered more affordable compared to Idalia, Douglas and Annandale.”

Houses in Thuringowa Central remained on the market for a median of 111 days, Corelogic found, which was the longest amount of time out of any suburb in Townsville.

Mr Pearce said it could be the result of the suburb’s lack of an “identity”.

“Thuringowa has a lot to offer buyers but it does suffer from an identity crisis,” Mr Pearce said.

“It is surrounded by Kirwan, which is a very well known suburb, and many buyers have never heard of Thuringowa Central.

“Vendors need to be certain they market their property with a campaign reaching across the entire market and discuss with their agent how they can seek and bring buyers to the property themselves.”
