A NEW dental practice – My Family Dental – has opened its doors in Bohle Plains after its owner Navdeep Singh identified more demand for dental services in the area.
With an idea to prioritise his patients, Mr Singh decided to stop working for someone else and fight tooth and nail to provide a service that aligned with his own values.
“I have been working with a local dentist for more than nine years in Townsville but I was working to someone else’s vision and it did not necessarily align with my own so I just thought it was time to open my own practice,” Mr Singh said.
“I wanted to offer a more personalised service to my patients and service the dental needs of the local community.
“It’s more about providing a great service to the patients than the money for me.”
Mr Singh said he had plans for the business to grow over the next 12 months.
“The business currently employs three people including myself but I am hoping to be able to expand in a year’s time,” Mr Singh said.
“The practice has the capacity for two full-time dentists and four support staff members.
“Townsville has been struggling a bit post-floods but I think things will pick up again pretty soon.”
With fewer dental clinics in Bohle Plains, Mr Singh said he saw an opportunity to service that area of the community.
“It feels great to be running my own practice but it also comes with a lot of added responsibility,” Mr Singh said.
“The Townsville community is pretty well serviced for dental need but I just love the city and I wanted to open my business here. When I looked more carefully, Bohle Plains and the Alice River area was probably just a little bit under-serviced compared to other suburbs in Townsville and I realised there was more demand in that area.”
Knight Frank leasing executive Louise Slater, who completed the deal alongside Dan Place, said the practice was accessible for its patients.
“My Family Dental is situated in a locally owned neighbourhood retail centre that is located at the entrance of Kalynda Chase, just off Hervey’s Range Rd, providing easy access to the Ring Road,” she said.
“The site appealed to the tenant due to the large residential catchment and limited dental competition.
“We get great satisfaction aligning local landlords with local tenants to achieve these type of outcomes.”
