Hockey’s best hit next level

- SUE WILLIAMS

WHILE the hockey season may have finished a couple of weeks ago, some Townsville players are still working hard representing their city and their state around the country.

This week, the U15 Townsville boys and girls are taking on teams from around the state at their respective State Championships.

The boys headed to Warwick, while the girls were in Gladstone, with both sides playing in Division 1.

After playing pool matches, the teams will move into the finals for placings on the last day of the championships.

The coaching staff of both teams are confident the Townsville players will put on a good showing, having put in the effort at training leading up to the Championships.

Also, over the next two weeks or so, a number of Townsville players will be representing Queensland at Australian championships.

At the Australian Masters Women’s Championships, being held at the Gold Coast, Townsville will be represented in Queensland teams in almost every age division from the 35s to the 65s.

One Townsville player will also be playing for WA in the 40s team.

The Masters Men’s Australian Championship is on the other side of the country in Bunbury/busselton and Townsville will have at least four men playing for Queensland and a few others playing with other states.

At the other end of the age scale, Connor Williams will be flying the Townsville colours as he represents Queensland at the Australian U13s National Championships in Hobart, starting next week.

Connor will first go to Brisbane for a training camp to meet his Maroon teammates.
