Let’s work in harmony

-

WORKING together for the good of the country – ignoring political dogma, party lines and talking points – how refreshing an idea. And, how dead in the water.

Case in point. The US is going through a political opera at the moment with the Democrats lined up against the

Republicans.

On the Dems’ side – Donald Trump is the reincarnated Devil, friend of Putin, a dictator and must be removed. On the GOP’S side, he’s something a wee bit different – he made a bunch of promises and would ya believe it … he kept them!

Meanwhile, the US economy is going gangbusters. Black, Hispanic, youth and women unemployment has never been lower. GDP is the world’s best. They are energy independent. Blue collar wages are going up. Seven million less of food stamps etc.

So the Dems, thinking Trump “colluded with the Russians” and “obstructed justice” and, “stole the election” (all patently false and totally disproved), will seemingly stop at nothing to remove him from office.

Their two weapons at the moment are impeachment – “because there’s no way we can possibly let the people decide that” – and the hope and push for a recession.

In fact, one of their iconic talking heads on TV has gone on the record and said, “If we have to have a recession to get rid of Trump … so be it”.

And the heck with the pain and suffering that brings to the folks – but a small price to pay to regain the power lost.

And now … here in Australia we have much the same thing playing out.

The Reserve Bank cuts interest rates and are doing so, on the face of it, to help stimulate the economy, to energise retail spending, to try to bolster public confidence and try to get the ship heading in a better direction.

And what does the ALP do as its knee-jerk reaction?

Instead of working with the government and the bank to reinforce this notion … to work hand-in-hand to correct the course and, in so doing, make sure this place powers on, instead, all it can do is criticise the Government, say how it’s “too little too late”, do its best to bring petrol to the fire and hope for the worst.

To the ALP. You’ve just lost an election. One way or another, you’ve got four long years to build your case for the people to re-elect you.

So why not – in the immediate term – reach across the aisle, work with the Government to do whatever is needed to reverse any worsening of the economy and help this country in its time in need.

Instead of harping on with the negative catastrophising, try using encouraging words and rhetoric that fill the people listening with hope, energy, optimism and vitality rather than the doom and gloom that seems to be your currency.

Maybe … just maybe … you’d find you’d win a lot of votes for just such a bipartisan act.

Oh, look … there’s a pink elephant.
