Reach the peak of skyline viewing

- ASHLEIGH HOWARTH

ONE of the best vantage points to see the Hong Kong skyline is by taking a ride on the funicular railway up to the Peak Tower.

The Peak Tram takes roughly eight minutes to reach the top, and it’s quite memorable due to its optical illusion. As you make your way up the steep track, the many buildings you pass along the way look like they are leaning at a gradient of between four and 27 degrees, which makes for some quirky photographs.

Upon reaching the top, you will find a number of eateries that provide breakfast, lunch or dinner with one of the best views you could ever witness.

Due to a rumbling stomach and a parched throat due to the humidity, I stopped in at one of the bars and enjoyed a cocktail and an appetiser while watching the boats, which looked like small ants making their way across the harbour.

Being such a popular tourist attraction, you are sure to bump into a few celebrities, which you will find in the Madam Tussauds Wax Museum for an extra cost.

While I didn’t go into this particular wax museum, Madame Tussauds certainly is worth a visit, and it’s somewhere you can spend a few hours out of the Hong Kong humidity, which some days can leave you feeling like you are melting.

But for the most impressive view of the city, head up the escalators to Sky Terrace 428. It’s called Sky Terrace 428 as it stands 428 metres above sea level, providing unrivalled views of one of the most famous harbours in the world.

The Peak Tram runs from 7am to midnight, meaning you can head up at multiple times of the day to see the city in a variety of different lights. I would love to be there to see the sunset, but alas my busy schedule did not permit it this time.

This is a prime example of where your selfie stick should be used, to ensure you can get a nice-looking photo with only one chin and as much of the skyline in the background as possible.

I however wanted to ensure I left the Peak Tram with a stunning photograph of the night sky, so on my way back down I stopped in at one of the many souvenir shops and purchased a canvas photograph taken by a professional for $10.

The Peak Tower and a journey on the Peak Tram is a scenic spot that is not to be missed.

Whether you come in the morning, afternoon or at night, you will be treated to a 360-degree panoramic view of Hong Kong that will stay with you for a lifetime.
