Wet whistle to aid farmers

- ELISABETH SILVESTER

GREAT Northern Brewing Co is asking Australians to wet their whistle to raise much needed funds for farmers impacted by drought.

The second national Let It Pour drought relief fundraising campaign will roll out the weekend of October 25-27, serving 150,000 schooners to thirsty Australians.

Marketing manager for Great Northern Brewing Co Antonia Ciorciari said the campaign raised more than $1 million last year and hoped to “smash that million dollars this year”.

“Let it Pour is all about supporting our farmers who are doing it really tough during the drought,” she said.

“Great Northern was born in regional Queensland and regional Australian towns and people in the communities have always been an incredible support to us.

“We feel in their time of need it is important that we give back to those people,” she said.

TV host and Great Northern ambassador Matt Wright said he had seen the devastation of the drought and the campaign was about uniting everyone in the community to fight for our farmers.

“This drought is pretty widely spread. A lot of the time it is just small pockets that get affected but this year it is bigger than usual and there are a lot of properties that need feed for the cattle and water,” he said.

Owner of Molly Malone’s Irish Pub David Zeller said he had friends in the Burdekin that had been impacted by the drought and didn’t think twice about being part of the campaign.

First drinks for the campaign will be poured on Friday, October 25, at Molly Malone’s with all proceeds donated to the drought relief fund.
