Dogs spoiling scenic spots in Townsville

-

IT would appear for many ratepayers in this city that their rights are limited, rights like the one to walk the beach from Rowes Bay to Cape Pallarenda.

It appears this whole beach is now for dogs to roam free.

It would be great to enjoy this walk without being molested or assaulted by dogs.

It appears dog owners either can’t read or don’t have any respect for other people.

I’d like the right to sit on the lawn along The Strand knowing I am not going to sit or place my towel on dog faeces, or to lean back on a tree or sit on seats provided and not have to endure the stink of countless litres of chemical-filled dog urine.

Dogs, I guess, most certainly enjoy what The Strand offers and just love to walk there on concrete paths.

But areas for dogs to enjoy are not limited to The Strand.

If people drive there it’s quite easy to drive elsewhere.

In my opinion, it is in need of a good clean, especially the pathway.

It’s a shame that in regard to one of Townsville’s limited attractions, the Townsville City Council is so obliging for dogs to do their thing wherever they please.

People’s health must come first and there must be limits placed on the rights of dog owners.

They may love their dogs, sleep with their dogs, I don’t care.

I do care about hygiene and health, so why should I and others have to tolerate the view of dogs urinating and defecating, and lose our right to a clean, healthy foreshore there for all to enjoy?

There must be areas set aside for those who want peace without dogs, as there are areas just for dogs and their owners.

It appears in this city there is no people-only place, unless you stay in your own home. IAN BRAGG,

Wulguru.
