Police to do overtime to take youth criminals on outings. Well I guess the Qld Government has tried just about everything else to ensure these little criminals know they are not to blame for their actions, why not show them a good time as well. Here’s an idea, let’s get tough on them until they get the message that what they have done is unacceptable within the community. Rick M 4817

I’m sure there must be many policemen and women out there who would love the time to take their own kids to sporting functions too. Liz. Bluewater

Bail kids’ outings. There is so much wrong with this I don’t know where to start. Why on earth are we rewarding these criminals? What about the kids in our community that are doing the right thing? Where is their reward? Are we seriously going to use tax dollars to entertain thieves and vandals while on bail for their crimes? The stupidity of this is breathtaking. Frudels Cranbrook heights

Di Farmer is deluding herself if she believes taking kiddy bailees fishing or to the footy will reform them. All she is doing is handing out rewards for bad behaviour. At the very least they should be performing a set number of hours working voluntarily in the community. Learning to earn privileges will make them appreciate what is being done. Jeff, Condon

Words fail me. Police to be babysitters for young crims is, to me, very condescending to those putting their lives on the line. This inept government has really and truly lost any credibility. M J Reynolds Mt Louisa

I had to check the calendar this morning. I could have sworn it was April the 1st. Surely the Labor/green government is joking. They now want the police to arrest young juvenile crims, charge them, then take them to the football or fishing. This must be a joke. She’s not that dumb is she? I’m confused. On a long weekend if I go over the speed limit I get double demerit points and a fine bigger than these crims get. So if I don’t pay it what happens? If I don’t turn up to court what happens? When the police come around and arrest me do I get to go fishing or to the football? The answer is NO. The 3 MPS, I don’t know how you walk around this town and not get laughed at. This has to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever read. Blu you are absolutely right, Harper, Stewart, O’rouke won’t release the numbers nor will they return calls or emails. This is one big stuff up, you 3 MPS. Glenn4810

We have a miserable council we have. There is a concession offered when buying tickets to shows at the Civic Theatre. But it is only for holders of a pension card. Everyone else has to pay full price. Seniors’ discounts are available everywhere else for older than 65 years of age but not at the council. The grey army out there needs to revolt. Barney Belgian Gardens

What a waste of money. We’ve just had a royal commission into the banks. They r a law unto themselves. It’s about time the Federal Government grew sum and shirtfronted the banks. Joe Blake

How pathetic is the ACCC? All they seem to be doing is investigating banks. What about showing intestinal fortitude and prosecuting oil companies and servos for ripping off Nth Qld motorists?

Has anyone else noticed that Jamie Durie is not the only one making squillions out of the Water Smart package? Bunnings had the compost tumbler for sale at $99 while the council’s preferred supplier is charging $170. Mt Louisa Al

I think it’s about time that the Water Police got off their big boat and into the littler ones and patrolled the estuaries and creeks and went after those who speed past those small tinnies anchored up having a quiet fish. It can be quite dangerous and it’s against the law. These speedsters must be fined the same as those speeding on our roads. John A Smith Ayr

So, the Premier of Qld has announced that approx 1/5 of our electricity supply will be from renewables by next year. Can she also tell us when the Kennedy Wind & Solar farm will come on line, particularly when it was originally supposed to be on line by now? Old Fart, Mount Low

Seeing magistrates’ decisions on climate activists (read “professional lay-about stirrers”) such as Eric Herbert, I have to wonder what the laws are in Qld. Are magistrates in Bris greenies? If I stuck a protest sign on a T-shirt in T’ville and stopped people going about their lawful business, I’m sure I’d be financially disadvantaged, probably jailed, and rightly so. Eric Herbert has been arrested 9 times, and still continues his egodriven disruption of Bris. A solution is don’t show his pic on TV or mention his name in newspapers, ever. No name, no fame, we gain. Ags Hermit Pk

The KAP are such a joke the way they are carrying on about their treatment from the Government! They put this government in power so suck it up you fools. Thomas west end 4810

A BOM forecaster ( TB, 14/10) says we need to “spare a thought” for people north of Ingham because the top temp will be 33. That used to be called a lovely warm day but now we’re supposed to believe it’s a cause of suffering. How about BOM stick to forecasting and we’ll decide what we should think about it. Miner, Kelso

Going from 7.9% renewables in 2015 to 21.9% in 2020 is a huge success for the sunshine state and shows we can achieve the 50% 2030 target, and beyond that 100%, 200% or even 700% as recently suggested for the national hydrogen strategy. The Freedom Energy One solar thermal power station is an exciting opportunity for NQ. We should be at the forefront of this transformation with our solar resources. Steve, Belgian Gardens

Take the fight up to these halfwit anarchists on our behalf Paul Murray. We, Mr and Mrs Average Citizen, have been silenced/shut down. Hopefully sanity will prevail and the halfwit anarchists will be the ones eventually shut down and silenced. Ron Kelso

Re protester disruptions – remember that time when Aborigines, gay people and women succeeded in changing government policy by sitting quietly to one side and not making a fuss? Me neither. The Credible Hulk Mt Louisa

I have converted to online banking and to be perfectly honest l have little need to attend a branch. I can withdraw cash from a supermarket who are happy to comply. Australia Post offices also offer a similar service, not only withdrawals but will accept deposits too! The Big 4 stopped listing branch phone numbers years ago, and this has also assisted with the need to employ less staff! Sandy 4818

It seems to have fallen off the ledge. What has happened to the Burdekin hydro? Joe Blake

What’s with the courts? Apparently we can all now break the law by entering railway property, chain ourselves to the tracks, refuse to obey police instructions and resist arrest. When we are fined, complain that we can’t pay and not only have the fine reduced but the QPS are then ordered to pay our costs. I shake my head in disbelief. I was fully expecting the court to order the QPS to pay a multimillion-dollar compensation package to the poor unfortunate protester for mishandling the situation. Where is our country going? Every protester should have to pay restitution for all costs incurred in removing them and all loss of productivity by their actions. Danny Mount Louisa

The Qld Council of Unions is completely out of touch with ordinary union members by opposing laws designed to curtail the extremist Extinction Rebellion. The right to protest in an open democracy does not include blocking roads & railway lines disrupting people’s (including unionists’) lives. Pedro Cranbrook

Dogs spoiling spots in TVL. Thanks Ian Bragg! My thoughts exactly! There seem to be more dogs than people walking The Strand these days and hygiene is a real issue. We walk nearly every day and each walk is spoiled by dogs defecating and peeing everywhere. A lot of owners don’t keep their pets close to them and think it’s OK that their pet can come to you for a sniff. I love animals but I love my space without a leash or dog trip hazard in my way. A designated area would be a great solution. Jane West End

Re “push to shift homeless”. Unless one lives, as I do, in close proximity to Dean Park & are subjected to the anti social behaviour of these itinerants then it is hard to imagine just how bad it is. It has been stated in the media & by the Mayor that the majority of these “parkies” are not homeless and are mainly indigenous. They choose this way of life because they have restricted access to alcohol in their own communities so converge on Dean Park where they can party, fight & then threaten & abuse nearby residents & visitors to the park. The drop in centre is just a benefit for them to freeload when it suits. There are no facilities after hours anyway, including water/toilets etc so they use private residential properties to urinate/defecate & look for trouble. To the minority of genuine “homeless” I apologise, but they are most certainly in the minority. Rod. South Townsville. 4810

Weeper, that’s a great idea about walking but some of us are not able to do that for various reasons. I for one would love to walk everywhere, unfortunately I’m not capable of doing that. J, Kelso

Stan Hatton of Cosgrove your letter in Friday’s Bulletin was written beautifully. I am sorry for your loss and for the other families who have lost loved ones due to the recent road tragedies. You are right. Do not blame the roads, we all need to take responsibility when we get behind the wheel and obey the rules. I travel that part of the highway several times a day; it is scary the things I see. People’s impatience and inattention is costing lives. Yesterday I was being tailgated by a 4WD so close I had to go through a dark orange light, to save the lives of my children in the back seat. Take care. Jayne Bushland Beach. 4818

?? ?? Be kind to each other. It’s Mental Health awareness time and no better opportunity to be kind to each other. Since the floods so many people have been unwell. Is it a result of bacteria, stress or a combination? So many people’s jobs have increased because of the rain event and unlike the contractors that come in from out of town, get paid the big bucks and leave within a couple of months, so many people are not getting any pay for the extra work that is expected of them. A doctor told me recently that he has seen a large increase in burn out from all manner of workers. It is expected to take another year at least to get people’s homes repaired. Love and light to all.
