DOWN TO BUSINESS
Budding Townsville businesspeople are set to be inspired at the inaugural Youth In Business conference to be held at The Cathedral School tomorrow.
The new event has been planned by students studying a diploma of business through Learning Partnerships as part of an assessment piece.
The conference features a huge line-up of guest speakers, including NQ Cowboys coach Paul Green, teenage app developer Hamish Finlayson, Volunteering North Queensland manager Shane Harris, young inventor Tristan Fivaz, blogger and entrepreneur Isaac Spina and Marissa Candy from the Marketing Factory.
Learning Partnerships director Miranda Hamilton said the conference was aimed at high school-aged students, and the student organisers had worked hard on the creative and logistical elements of the conference.
“When we started doing the diploma of business for Year 11 and 12s, I wanted to make sure the kids had some … experience that is real-world transferable,” she said.
“This is something I’ve been thinking I would love to do, and I thought ‘why not make it an assignment piece?’
“They’ve had a terrific time, it really has got them engaged and they’ve really learned some good skills from it.”
Speaker, organiser and Year 11 student Isaac Spina said each guest would discuss a different topic or aspect of business.
“I hope that kids get a better insight into how they’re going to go about a future in business, if they want to go down that path,” he said.
“I’ll be talking about transforming a blog into an enterprise, and how I juggle it with school. I have a blog called The Aspie Blogger, and I have my own essential oils brand called Spectrum Sense.”
