Thannhauser ready to jump
GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville Showgrounds tonight with a 12-race program headlined by the RQ Maiden 1000 Final.
The Race 2 RQ Maiden over 380m is a very open final with a few potential chances, including Thannhauser (1) for Andrew Wooler. She began well last week from box six to lead before finishing second behind Renshaw Avenue.
No Filter (4) also for Andrew Wooler began well from box three before finishing second behind Arninator last start. Lovely Maz (2) for Jon Forster can begin and has been very consistent and is a place chance. Renshaw Avenue (7) for Paul Smith has each-way claims after winning his heat last week from box four and is better suited from a wide draw.
Kennel mate Arninator (6) won his heat from box eight last week and is another that prefers wide draws.
The meet features three heats of the 5th Grade over 498m. Race 5 is the Bohle Barn Hotel Motel 5th Grade Heat 1 and a few dogs stepping up to this distance.
China Swagger (1) for Jay Schafer has been consistent over the sprint and steps up in distance tonight. She can begin on her night and has drawn well first up so watch the market.
Rumble Master (3) for Brad Belford has had one start over the distance where he was unplaced, but he will be trying for his fifth win in a row.
Tracy’s Shadow (8) for Rhonda Essery has good box manners from the jump and should be up there.
Disco Hips (2) for Carol Pickard has had two runs over the distance for a second and a fourth and runs home strong.
Race 6 is the Miles Kitchen Refinishing 5th Grade Heat 2. Plyometric (1) for Harold Hovi ran a good second last week behind Fireball Sam in the 4/5th Grade final. He has drawn well and should run another bold race.
Yuken Sunshine (2) for Robert Thomson is in good form and has drawn well.
Flash Pappa (4) for Glen Olsen is stepping up in distance tonight. He has shown good form over the sprint, while Midnight Mcqueen (6) for Carol Pickard is also stepping up in distance.
Race 7 is the MCP Racing 5th Grade Heat 3. Old Mate Kick (1) for Joan Newnham loves the rails and has drawn well. He can begin on his night, and should be up with the leaders. Positive Gearing (6) for Michael Fusco has won over the 450m at Ballarat and Shepparton.
Naturally Gifted (2) for Rhonda Essery has drawn close to the rails. She only needs to jump cleanly and will be hard to run down.
