Lloyd tours album for two decade milestone

-

TWO decades since the release of his career-defining album Black The Sun, Aussie artist Alex Lloyd is taking the beloved album around the country again.

Lloyd will bring a combination of his biggest hits and his entire debut album in full to Townsville for fans new and old.

He said it had been a long time since he was last in Townsville, but was looking forward to returning with a full band.

“I think I played at the Casino years ago,” he said.

“I haven’t been touring with a full band for a while, probably about six years.

“It’s a great vibe, I can’t wait. I’m really looking forward to it, being with the band and doing a full show with all the bells and whistles.”

Black The Sun has won a swag of awards, as have Lloyd’s other hits throughout his career, and was modern for its time when it was first released in 1999.

“Black The Sun has a lot of beats in it, all the technology, it’s weird because it was new at the time when it came out but now it’s very commonplace to have all that stuff,” he said.

“I’ve met up-and-coming artists that were inspired by different songs and whatnot. I do get that occasionally and it’s a real privilege, you feel quite humbled when someone says something like that.”

Lloyd said it was hard to believe it had been two decades since the release of his first record. “A lot has happened in that time, however this album still resonates with me maybe even more so now,” he said.

“I’ve really been enjoying listening to the record again and getting into it and identifying with it, and getting excited about coming up there.”

Catch Alex Lloyd at the Dalrymple Hotel on Wednesday, October 30. Tickets from Otix.
