Brothers eye tough T20 task

-

BROTHERS are hungry to reclaim the Andrew Symonds Cup as the side prepares to kickstart its tournament against Wanderers next weekend.

Captain Reece Danaher will lead the team into the T20 tournament, and while he is confident in the squad he has assembled, he warned of the myriad threats in the tournament.

From a hungry Herbert River outfit to A Grade frontrunners Wests, the excitement and unpredictability of the T20 format means it truly is anyone’s tournament to win.

But Danaher said it was last year’s grand finalists, seven-time champions Sub Parks, that would prove the most difficult.

“They are going to be hungry to come back and regain the title, so we need to be aware of that,” Danaher said.

“But we are also excited. We want to have a really good crack at the T20s.

“Our goal is to try and win that again.

“You have to bowl really well and field really well in the T20s. And it will be up to the top order to fire for us.

“We have a solid top four or five bats and they need to be scoring runs.”

Danaher will take the reins for the T20s but admitted he would be relying on support from the senior members of his squad, including Herbie Heuir and Hayden Searle.

The club has also been buoyed by the potential return of top-order batsman Craig Mcelligott for the back-end of the A Grade season after missing the first half through a back injury.

The former Brisbane first grade player was a run machine at the top of the order for Brothers last season before an off-season injury cruelled his chances of getting back on the field.
