FIRM KEEPS PARTYING

- TONY RAGGATT

TOWNSVILLE’S longestrunning event business has a fresh focus on providing for the region’s party and function needs after opening at a new site in Currajong.

Third generation family business Ede Events has relocated from Hermit Park and a storage warehouse in the Bohle to a large industrial property at 44 Keane St. Sally Ede, who operates Ede Events with her brother Luke, said the move had been a huge exercise not only in shifting their large stores of equipment but in consolidating from two sites into one and taking advantage of the efficiencies and new features provided.

“We are really excited about the benefits for our customers. We know this move is going to assist everybody. It’s given us a fresh new approach in how we are going to use this facility,” Ms Ede said

Ede Events has been operating since 1966 and is an offshoot from another family business, Ede Shade Solutions.

Ms Ede said Ede Events began in canvas manufacturing, moving into events when it began hiring the marquees it manufactured.

It now focused on party hire for homes, weddings and functions through to the support of large-scale events such as Groovin the Moo and the Townsville Cup race day.

Ms Ede said they had been able to take advantage of the efficiencies of operating under one roof as well as benefit from improvements in storage and the movement of equipment.

The property allowed them to have a cleaning bay for marquees, commercial laundry storage, kitchen washing facility, meeting rooms, offices and large parking area.

Colliers International Townsville executive James Pascoe, who negotiated the lease to Ede Events, said Melbourne investor Bob Jones acquired the Currajong site last year and invested about $600,000 into its upgrade.

A 3000sq m hardstand area was added to more than 1800sq m of workshop and office space on 5357sq m of land, while street-to-street access through to Punari St was provided. “Bob Jones got stuck into the upgrade and since then Ede Events has signed up on a seven-year lease. It shows a property can be upgraded and suit an array of tenants,” Mr Pascoe said.
