Man sent to jail over ‘appalling’ road rage

- CAITLAN CHARLES

A 60-YEAR-OLD man was in serious strife with a magistrate after he rammed a car with two children in it three times.

Magistrate Ross Mack said the lack of remorse boilermaker Gordon David Beveridge showed after the road rage incident was very concerning.

Duty lawyer Nicole Butler told the Townsville Magistrates Court when a young man parked his “flashy” car in front of Beveridge’s “bomb” car at the Rasmussen Woolworths he became enraged.

The “perceived lack of disrespect of a man in a very flashy car” sent the 60-yearold into a fit of rage, as he yelled at the young man.

Ms Butler said since his separation from his partner in 2010, Beveridge had financial issues, and such a young man in a nice car “enraged him”.

But when the victim flipped Beveridge the bird, he began to ram into the victim’s car.

He hit the car three times, putting a 7-year-old boy sitting in the back seat and the victim’s wife who was tyring to get into the front seat in serious danger.

Mr Mack made a point to read into the record that after the incident, Beveridge had just “driven away” from the scene.

And when police visited Beveridge about 45 minutes later, he showed little to no remorse, the facts stated.

“I am appalled at the lack of remorse when you were spoken to by police,” Mr Mack told him

Mr Mack sentenced Beveridge to nine months prison, disqualified his licence for 12 months and recorded a conviction.

He was given a parole release date of April 21, 2020.
