Townsville Bulletin

The game’s up, Phil

-

AS THE local MP for Thuringowa I have worked extremely hard with my community in the last number of years to be a part of our State Government that has delivered over $2 billion for health, hducation, roads and infrastructure like the port expansion, North Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Haughton water pipeline and Townsville Ring Road 5, or Riverway Drive stage 1.

Having delivered over $12 million for Heatley schools, and the same for Kirwan High, let alone millions in other projects in our state’s primary schools for new infrastructure like new teaching areas, shade structures and security fences, I have a track record and know how to deliver for Thuringowa.

Can I suggest instead of taking the liberty of placing his signs on our state schools, the Member for Herbert puts his energy into actually delivering jobs and funding for Townsville.

The Federal Member likes to turn up, smile like he has actually worked hard to contribute to major job generating infrastructure projects such as the North Queensland Stadium, port expansion or other state-funded projects.

Well, the game is up Phil. Quite frankly people who speak to me can see right through this Federal Government who we know is only interested in funding their own back yard, such as the fallout we have seen of the scandal of the former Sports Minister Bridget Mckenzie. Just embarrassing.

Now we see the game play that this Morrison-led LNP Government that has absolutely struggled to show proper leadership in bushfires, let alone coronavirus, has mislead the people of Townsville with yet another “election promise” to deliver its “commitment” to the Townsville Water Security Pipeline Stage 2 Haughton to Clare.

But hang on, that was an election commitment right? Now it’s apparently about the Feds’ refusing to pay the GST component. Sounds like they never wanted to fund it in the first place!

The Feds want to make it a game. Well it is not, and the persistent unemployment rate that we continue to tackle through programs like Works for Queensland, Skilling Qld for Work or Back to Work Regional fund that has delivered thousands of jobs in Townsville.

What is Phillip Thompson MP doing for jobs?

We plead with the Federal Government to do their bit and keep to their election promises.

The delay in Haughton Water pipeline Stage 2 just reeks of another LNP scandal, lots of promises, but no actual delivery! Much like the five-year-old $5 billion NAIF fund that has not yet seen a single project started in North Queensland, or the $5 billion drought relief package that has yet to see a single cent get to the farmer’s door.

Once again the State Government is doing the heavy lifting in health, education, infrastructure and other areas.

When will the Federal MP stop being Canberra’s man in Herbert and finally stand up and deliver for the people of Townsville?

AARON HARPER, Member for Thuringowa.
