No Filter in the running

- LEE PEARCE

THE GBD Concrete Services 5th Grade Final, which highlights tonight’s Townsville Greyhounds 12-race program, is so hard to pick it will likely come down to the box draw.

The feature race over 380m will be supported by two heats of the QLD 4/5th Grade series over 498m.

Andrew Wooler’s exciting No Filter, which drew the inside run, will be among the favourites for the 5th grade final.

He won his heat last week from this box in 22.52.

Rhonda’s Storm (3) for Rhonda Essery began brilliantly in that race but faded to finish third.

Western Lion (2) for Jay Schafer won his heat in 22.21 last week from box eight but his inside draw could prove costly tonight.

As Magic Is (7) for Kerry Griffin won her heat last week in 22.38 from box one. She has drawn wide and if she gets a clear run will be the big danger.

Looming Lara (8) for Paul Smith ran on well last week for second from box four behind No Filter.

Race 10 is the QLD Bred 4/5th Grade Heat 1 over 498m. Final Plea (1) for Brad Belford is a former Brisbane greyhound having his first start in new kennels, and could prove an exciting prospect.

Mali’s Rocket (5) for Heath Ardle ran a good race last week behind Velocity Layla, will be improved for the run and has each way claims.

Who Nose Size (7) for Allan Metcalfe has good form and she has a strong run home.

Race 11 is the QLD Bred 4/5th Grade Heat 2 over 498m.

Vegas Talks (2) for Brad Belford won the fifth-grade final over 498m last week from box one.

He is well drawn again and has a big chance to make it two in a row.

Velocity Layla (5) for Clarence Wilcox has drawn the squeeze alley tonight. She won from box one last week but will need a clear run.

Smokey Wishes (7) for Rhonda Essery has drawn wide. Prefer to see closer to the rails, place chance.

Kennelling for tonight’s races closes at 6.17pm with the first race to jump at 7.02pm.
