Wellbeing focus

-

TOWNSVILLE senior residents out at Carlyle Garden Lifestyle Resort are more than just pretty faces – they have a village that prides itself on a community that practises healthy living, active living, social engagement and community care.

While visiting out at Condon you are drawn by the laid back, active personal environment but the residents also have a keen interest in maintaining their mental health and wellbeing.

Whether it be activities throughout the village or fitness programs, they appreciate the importance of looking after yourself and those around you.

To add to their focus and interest they called on the Mentally Healthy City Townsville team to attend and present to the residents an overview of services and an awareness of looking after yourself day to day.

Mentally Healthy City Townsville project manager Brendon Marty said it was a fantastic opportunity to be able to meet and present to such an inspirational group of people.

“Our aged population can often go unnoticed, and loneliness is certainly a concern,” Mr Marty said.

“It is wonderful to see this organisation enable such an active group to take responsibility for their mental health and wellbeing.”

The residents were delighted that their approach sees them staying stimulated and healthy but, like anyone in society these days, the awareness of how to seek help and daily prompts was reassuring for them that they were on the right track.

The Mentally Healthy City Townsville team strives to inform and empower individuals and communities to achieve their best mental health and wellbeing via education and promotion of resources.

Senior village manager Susan Dundas said it was an honour to have the team at the centre.

“Carlyle Gardens was proud to be the first seniors presentation and engagement opportunity under this program and working into the future striving to daily fit in the ‘Wheel of Wellness’ concept,” she said.
