Team first spirit certainly is heart-feldt

- SAM FLANAGAN

IT was the moment which will live forever in the minds of North Queensland fans.

Michael Morgan skipping across the field in the 2015 grand final and finding an unmarked Kyle Feldt in the corner to send the match into extra time. We all know what happened from there.

Four-and-a-half years on from that magical moment and Feldt is quietly optimistic there’s even greater memories lying ahead as he prepares to return to ANZ Stadium tonight.

“I think there’s not too many bigger moments that can happen (laughs),” Feldt said of the grand final try.

“I’m hopeful something is going to happen and if it does I’ll be fortunate enough to be there and hopefully make history again.”

Feldt has a full pre-season under his belt and declared he’s injury free, bigger, fitter and stronger for season 2020.

Having gone through the grades with Morgan and Jason Taumalolo, the trio now find themselves as crucial figures in a Cowboys locker room which has been drained of experience over the last two years. Feldt said it was great to go from schoolboy stars to seasoned first graders with the pair.

The trio will need to stand up tonight against the Bulldogs if the side are to return from Sydney with their first competition points of the season.

“Morgo and Jase bumped up to first grade before me so it was really good to come along and join in the squad with them,” he said.

“Now Morgo’s our captain it’s really good to see a local junior is our leader and Jase may as well be a local.

“It’s good to see the local support for the boys is still here.”

With the Cowboys roster including the likes of Murray Taulagi, Hamiso Tabuai-fidow and Connelly Lemuelu, the 28-year-old was thriving in his role of nurturer.

“It’s good competition and there is a lot of young talent coming through,” he said. “I’ve got to be really on my toes and keep them off me. It’s good to help them out and show them what we’re about at the club.”
