Touch Football eyes return in July

-

TOWNSVILLE Touch Football has set its sights on a return to the Queens Park fields in early July.

The association has devised a restructured schedule that will see its senior competitions run into the summer months.

The association’s premier competitions, the men and women’s Colliers Shield, will restart the season on July 12 before the mixed and veteran competitions return the following week.

TTF was one of the final organised sports to go off the field in Townsville, and had originally planned on being one of the first back on it.

“While TTF had originally planned on a return to play in early June, the State Government’s refusal to open COVID-19 free regional areas of Queensland earlier than the southeast corner has resulted in further delay to community sport returning to normal until stage three of the road map comes into effect on 10 July,” a TTF spokesman said.

“With competitions being suspended since March 23, players are itching to get back on to the touch football field, and we want to assure our community that we will do everything in our power to ensure they can do so safely from the day we are able to restart.

“TTF is working on a number of measures that will remain in place throughout the season to ensure the safety of our participants and will only lift those measures once advised it is safe to do so by the relevant authorities.”

New teams or players can sign up for the restart.
