Yet again I see city spending money but nothing for Castle Hill PCYC. No one wants to take responsibility for fixing it. Land owned by one party, buildings by PCYC. City, state, federal, PCYC need to figure it out and fix this needed facility for the community, especially the kids

F.YATES NORTH WARD.

How mindless is the decision to make a blanket rule that hotels and eateries can reopen but patrons are limited to 10. So according to the rule makers it doesn’t matter if your business has a floor area of 10 square metres or 10,000 square metres you can still only have the same amount of patrons. How stupid are these decisions. Surely there needs to be an allowance based on the social distancing recommended distances. If you jam 10 people into some of the small hole in the wall cafes they will be closer than 1.5m apart, 10 people in any of the hotels or large restaurants in town and there would be 20 metres between people. Obviously the large venues will never open for 10 or even 20 patrons because their spend wouldn’t even cover the cost of the power to run the place.

Kath, Kirwan. I agree, all businesses take time to grow and Rex could eventually become Queensland’s top regional airline. In dire times like the present it’s up to each state to prioritise what’s best for their economy and future.

CARL. PIMLICO.

D Bilton: re Virgin purchase, firstly it’s not a “bailout”, it’s our government literally running an airline, a highly complicated business they have zero expertise in managing. Secondly, there are multiple other corporate buyers expressing interest, so it’s not a choice between government or bust. I don’t see how this is possibly a good idea.

AN 4814

Oh my god have you ever heard anything as ridiculous as this Queensland government buying an airline. Don’t forget it was a Labor government who closed down our railway workshops in Townsville, thereby putting hundreds of Townsville workers and apprentices out of work. They couldn’t sell off our state’s assets quick enough and now they want to buy an airline. What next, make Jackie Trad the CEO?

MIKE MT LOW

Anna, $200million might get a promotion sticker on the windscreen, it would hardly cover the cost of pilots for one year, so where is the money coming from for the flight attendants, ground handlers, luggage loaders, office staff, checkin staff, tyre kickers, fuel, catering? Think about it Puddles, your thought bubble has burst. Or has it, surely this is an election year joke?

HAGAR THE HUMEROUS MTLOW

TM. Currajong. If billionaires like Etihad, Singapore, Nanshan and HNA all 20% owners won’t save it, throw in Virgin Group Branson with 10% who also has a 51% share in Virgin Atlantic, something’s on the nose. No competent goverment throws good money after bad when they’re already up to the neck in debt. This country has far bigger problems than a second airline, with millions still suffering the effects of drought, wildfires, flood-hit Townsville which decimated livestock west, and massive unemployment due to coronavirus which will take years to recover from. We are not China with their huge financial base, Australia has only 25 million people and are on their knees right now.

WW. C/JONG.

So Sam Cox has won and lost a seat with Campbell Newman, spat the dummy, stood for Hanson as a true Burdekin boy and lost, then as an independent for Mayor and lost, and now wants to tell Deb Frecklington to step aside because she cannot win. Let it go Sam.

TOM MUNDINGBURRA

Sam Cox some of us hear you, your comment

Deb not ready for Premier. Bring on David Cristafulli, a much stronger voice, would certainly give Puddleduck a run for the money (which Queensland) hasn’t much of at present. NKIRWAN

I agree with Sam Cox, 18/5. Deb Frecklington has simply been too nice and polite about what Labor has been doing to our state. I hate to think it, but Ms Palaszczuk is on track to get back in currently just because she is always in the media and Deb Frecklington has been sooo quiet. David Crisafulli is my choice for the next premier. Please, no more of the Palace Chook and the 3 stooges. Queensland can’t afford that. S.A., W.E.

I’m sure the LNP will give careful consideration to noted turncoat Sam Cox’s letter about their leadership (or lack thereof).

STEVE, BELGIAN GARDENS

Sorry, but I don’t see steely, determined leadership in the page 5 photo of the Premier. I see a spoilt, pony-club brat who’s always been sheltered and has never done a hard day’s work in her life. And yes, Sam Cox (TB, 18/5), the LNP needs to pick their best leader and not settle for their best female leader, particularly when history offers so few great female leaders.

MINER, KELSO

It’s great to see the SEQ get a taste of what regional Queensland has been experiencing for years. I hope Supercars is not the last to consider us. AS. 4814.

Seeing Aaron Harper trying to take the credit for Driveitnq makes me mad. He has done stuff all but make promises which he hasn’t delivered. He’s like an annoying blowfly buzzing around. KT, KIRWAN

Conspiracy theory number....? Maybe China is using this pandemic to bankrupt and therefore weaken the west?

D. BILTON W /END

If Bryce Cartwright can’t have the flu shot for medical reasons, then his wife and son must have the same medical problems as he does, as neither of them will be vaccinated either. For anything. I find that coincidence impossible to believe.

AGS HERMIT PK

If the State Government has even a dollar of interest in Virgin Airlines the unions will try to run it. Then the fares will skyrocket. M.THOMAS 4824

Pedro old mate. It’s a bloody waste of time any of us having a whinge about the Queensland Government. Palaszczuk is so arrogant we don’t count. This is the same woman who says that she will not be reopening the border between Queensland and NSW until she’s ready. Let’s not forget that she will be, purely because it suits her, opening them for a competition full of rugby league teams and their support staff.

RON KELSO.

How amazing is the Endoscopy unit at our university hospital. The most beautiful compassionate wonderful Mr. Dr. RNS especially one who patted my head when I was anxious, you are a true nurse. Susan the bowel screen nurse, so professional and kind always. Thank you all for the hard job u do. BLONDIE 4818

On Saturday the Townsville Bulletin advertised Mission Beach holiday properties, with some prices ranging from $400 to $700 a night. With overseas travel being restricted its inevitable that our tourist industry will seek to fill this void, but it’s unbelievable that folk charge, let alone pay, an average of $3500 a week for a self serviced house in Mission Beach.

WHITTY 4811

We in the regional areas of the state are being penalised by the fact we are in election freefall. The hypocritical decisions disadvantaging us with the easing of restrictions by the Premier is purely for political vote chasing reasons. And she will milk the situation for every last drop.

REB KELSO

Fantastic series on SBS How the Victorians Changed England. 64 years of quantum leap in human history that led to where we are today. This should be history in schools not the drivel currently served up to students promoting the dismal efforts of non productive cultures.

DOC CONDON

How can two WA AFL teams relocate to the Gold Coast with the borders closed when my grandson cannot visit his father in NSW?

MAL TODD, KELSO

RFBAQ general manager Justin Choveaux, warns “5000 brigade members are gone and another 5000 sent warning letters”, ABC 13/5. “In last year’s devastating fires Queensland had to rely on firefighters from NSW and Vic”. The Palaszczuk Government woke handling of the blue cards issue could see us 10,000 firies short for the 2020 fire season. Labor’s thank you to our heroes is “thanks but no thanks, we’d rather let the state burn”. Will the LNP reinstate them? SHANE, AIRLIE.

I will stand beside a volunteer firey who does not have a blue card any day before I would stand beside the Government.

Recently on ABC TV Q&A program a viewer asked our Premier via videolink “Why is there one rule for footballers & another rule for everyone else”. Premier Anna laughed the question off by saying something like “everyone loves their footy.” That answer is not good enough! Not everyone is a football fan. We are told we still have to practice social distancing, but TV shows local footy players tackling & hugging each other while I’m told I can’t hug or peck on the cheek my children or grandkids. My daughter & son-in-law are not allowed to travel south to see my granddaughter & family, but Premier Anna says she is welcoming interstate footy teams. Earlier she had also spoken of allowing other teams to come to Townsville.

She says these things in one breath, but in the next breath tells us we still need to stay home & still social distance ourselves. Right now we do not need possible carriers frequenting our COVID-19 free zone to cause reinfection. It would seem this State Government’s scales of reasoning are very unbalanced at present. SALLY S. 4812.

Sam Cox, you are correct with the leadership of the LNP & the previously led party of which you were a member. They planned to sell our port but had no plan on how to do it. DC told me that would be worked out as they went. That was not good enough for me! Any sales need to be to strong Aussie companies. Labor can win government purely from Brisbane with the current electoral boundaries. If the LNP wants to win, they need good policies, strong (not nice) leadership.
