Mackenzie times her return to perfection

A PAUSE on sport may have disappointed players in all codes but netball player Mackenzie Linton is certainly not one of them.

The Burdekin Silverlinks premier league player was poised to miss out on the entire 10-week Townsville City Netball Premier League season, but a forced pause in the season due to COVID-19 has given Linton a chance to return to the court this season.

Linton is heading into her fifth month of recovery from scoliosis surgery and by the six-month mark will be looking at returning to the court.

“I am almost on to my fifth month since I had it so at six months I am able to play netball again, so that’s pretty exciting,” Linton said.

“With recovery, (the doctor) did say to get back into weights but I couldn’t because gyms were shut because of coronavirus so I have been doing workouts with ( my sister) Bella at home and just doing little things that will help improve little things on court.”

Linton played reserve grade in 2018 before making the cut for the premier league team in 2019.

This year saw Townsville City Netball adopt a shorter, 10week season in a bid to align better with the Sapphires series.

Prior to the pause, Burdekin’s premier league side was out to hold on to a winning streak bumping them into the top four on the ladder.

Linton said the return of the season on July 13 had given her a goal to work towards in her recovery.

“I have to now push myself so I can get back on the court and perform well,” Linton said.
