FUN TO BE HAD AT BROTHERS

- KEAGAN ELDER

THOSE wanting a flutter on the TAB or Keno can now head over to Brothers Leagues Club, which has opened sooner than expected.

Club chief executive Justin Wilkins said the venue would be open all week while people can enjoy a meal at the restaurant from Tuesday to Sunday.

Staff had cordoned off sections, meaning more than 150 people can fit in for a meal or drink at the Kirwan club.

“It’s a positive sign, things are getting back to some normality,” Mr Wilkins said.

While the club reopened last week, Mr Wilkins said the gaming room would remain closed under COVID-19 restrictions but bingo would soon restart.

“We’re waiting on the Government to make a call on that. We’re hoping that will be brought forward,” he said.

“We just got word bingo can reopen, we will be looking at how we can bring it back in a limited capacity. Our bingo manager is working on a plan on how we can open it up at the weekend. Every second call we get is: ‘When will bingo start?’”

Brothers remained closed during the first round of restrictions being eased in May, offering takeaway food to customers to keep staff in work.

During the closure, works continued on major renovations, including a new rooftop bar, installation of a massive 4.5m by 2.5m TV in the newlook beer garden and a kitchen fit-out.

“It’s two weeks away from completion,” Mr Wilkins said.

He anticipated opening the club later, predicting it would open in next month’s Stage 3 of the State Government’s plan.
