HE’S only 15, but Luke Car- roll has already reached diz- zying heights other musicians take a career to attain.

Luke seemingly has the e world at his feet.

“I originally started learning violin when I was three and I did that for a year,” ”

Luke said.

“I then started playing g cello and then decided to pick up a second instrument, which was the flute. I’ve done seven years of age.”

With a mum who plays the violin and a dad on the piano, music is in Luke’s blood.

“It’s enjoyable to play because you get the fun of doing whatever you want. It’s fun to make other people happy as well,” he said.

“It’s interestin­g because some days I prefer flute and some days I prefer cello.

“At the moment it’s mainly been cello. I’d also like to pick up piano if I could.”

Luke, who is a member of the Barrier Reef Orchestra, said he’d received sound advice when he first began playing, which had fuelled his passion.

“Don’t practise long, practise well.

“Also try to practise every day, because if you don’t it just falls apart.”

The Year 10 student said music would be a pivotal part of his life after school.

“There’s always choosing a career, and choose orchestra as well as teaching.

“If I don’t chase a career in music I’ll probably do community orchestra still and keep on practising because it’s just fun.” them both since I was if I do

Miella has danced d since she was two years old before taking up singing when she was s eight.

By 12 she was writing g her own songs, a pro- gression she said hap- pened overnight.

“I kind of fell into it. t.

There was an incident t that happened that I felt t really passionate about and I wanted to write about,” Miella said.

“So I wrote how I felt in the song and it ended up coming out as my first song, Real R l Love. “I released that when I was 15.”

The 17-year-old said she loved artists such as Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.

While she loves singers before her time, Miella takes a modern approach to her sound.

“I love the creativity and how you can be expressive in so many different ways,” she said.

“The technology and all the different sounds you can create is endless, it’s a lot of fun.”

The Year 12 student has already been a contestant on The Voice Australia as well as supporting internatio­nal heart-throb Rob Thomas.

Miella said she’d like to relocate to Brisbane after school as well as do plenty of travelling with her music.

“Ideally I’d love to be recording, performing and touring around. But there’s a lot of different things I want to try out, like musical theatre.”
