TB June 19/6. Youth’s sentence quashed. Who is the victim in this instance? The teenager committed serious violent offences against the taxi driver, gets 6 month susp sentence. Then, on appeal, the judges state that it was too harsh and that it could affect his future job prospects. He’s also got lengthy criminal history. Honestly, do these judges know what it’s like to live in the real world? The taxi driver, along with the taxi service must be outraged by this disgraceful decision. PAT, 4812
Surprise, surprise, jobs are left vacant because people prefer to sit on doubled Jobseeker. Meatworks have to use imported labour and fruit and veg will rot in the fields. Even the struggling tourism/ hospitality industry can’t get staff. There is only one solution. Reduce Jobseeker to a level forcing people to seek jobs! The Police prosecutor presents the offender’s criminal history to society, to the court. Break and enters, possession of tainted property, car thief etc etc. The courts allow bail because no Injuries caused by the offenders, therefore no danger to themselves or public. I see that Coralee O’rourke has said that work on the rail line between Rockhampton and Townsville is being carried out by Townsville based construction company Civil Mining and Construction. This company is not based in
Townsville, it is based in Brisbane. Another kick in the guts for our local companies and just shows this government and our local Labor representatives only look after the southeast. Fancy receiving a random letter dated the 9th June 2020 (three out of three of my work team received one) to complete a stat dec signed by a JP confirming I live in my house! I received this letter in the mail on the 18/6/2020 and council must receive this by the 30/6/2020, otherwise my rates bill will be increased. A reply envelope wasn’t even included. Sounds like a huge money grab to me. How many people are going to miss this deadline and be stuck paying extra rates? We should have rates stopped just like Brisbane. KYLIE, KELSO
