Gascoigne tipped to turn it on in decider

- LEE PEARCE

TRAINER Harold Hovi has fine tuned Gascoigne’s engine as he prepares to put the pedal to the floor in tonight’s Grand Prix Final over 498m at Townsville.

The handy four-year-old by Banjo Boy was impressive in the heats at Townsville Showgrounds last week when he punched his ticket to the final with a quick 28.88 seconds win in the heats.

But that unimpeded run came from a wide box seven draw, and with Gascoigne moving into box four he will have a bit of work to do to get out into open space.

His biggest challenge will come from his outside in Super Hard (6) for Jo Wooler.

She ran a PB of 28.89 in her heat win last week from box two, chasing down tearaway leader Yukan Sunshine to score by 1.25 lengths.

She has drawn wider in box six tonight and will need to begin quickly to get across to the rails.

Super Hard (6) for Jo Wooler ran a PB of 28.89 in winning her heat last week from box two chasing down tearaway leader Yuken Sunshine to score by 1.25 lengths and she has drawn wider tonight and will need to begin and get to the rails. A place chance.

Flyin’ Scarlett (7) for Jay Schafer is getting stronger over the journey, she ran second from box six behind Gascoigne going down by 0.5 of a length, and will be a big danger from here.

Akisha Kid (3) for Michael Hickmott ran third in his heat behind Gascoigne at his first look at the track. He has still drawn well and will be improved for the run.

In the other feature tonight, the G. B. D Concrete Services 5th Grade final over 380m, it will be Stuart trainer Andrew Wooler looking for a winning quinella.

Wooler will rug up the impressive Orara Reggie (3) and Blackened (8) in the feature.

Orara Reggie was a strong winner last week before backing up on Friday to run third behind Cult Hero and should start as an early favourite.
