Brighter outlook for shop

A MOVE and refresh has been perfect timing for long-time Townsville business The Coloured House, which is seeing good prospects from the stimulus measures announced for home building and renovation.

The specialist in blinds, curtains, shutters and awnings has joined a growing number of small businesses that have relocated to shopfronts in Charters Towers Rd.

Business owner Anne Sanker said changed circumstan­ces and a desire for a more highprofil­e location prompted its move and she had found just what was needed in a 275 sqm tenancy in Hermit Park.

“I was seeking a profile location and here we are much more visible,” Ms Sanker said.

“The first couple of weeks have been really good and I have noticed an increase in foot traffic.”

She said that the Federal and State government­s’ announceme­nts this month to stimulate home building and renovation, as well as a trend for people to reassess their home environmen­ts, was boosting business.

“We’ve certainly seen an increase in people coming in with their plans,” Ms Sanker said.

While the coronaviru­s crisis had led to tough trading conditions, Ms Sanker said activity was picking up as social distancing restrictio­ns were eased.

“There's a lot of do-it-yourself people and we are starting to see that coming through,” Ms Sanker said.
