Paynters pick identity for new role Koen builds board’s skills
TOWNSVILLE construction industry identity Michael Koen has been appointed to the board of national builder Paynters as part of an expansion in its activities.
Mr Koen is one of three board appointments to the Sydney-based company as it seeks to develop its skills base and maintain contact with key stakeholders.
Mr Koen heads up the North Queensland region for Paynters and joined the company a decade ago after a diverse career in the Army.
He undertook engineering and construction-related roles within Australia, throughout the South Pacific and in the Middle East and continues to draw from this experience in his current role with Paynters.
Mr Koen oversees numerous projects being delivered by the local office, including the Townsville University Hospital pharmacy cytotoxic laboratory and medical imaging department projects.
Paynters managing director Nigel Gardiner said it was essential its board had the skills and experience to navigate the challenges presented by a broad business base.
“It is the role of our board to guide business strategy towards success and to ensure Paynters is structured and governed in a way that ensures the business’ longevity to the benefit of all our stakeholders,” Mr Gardiner said.
Ashley Lowe and Sean O’brien were also appointed to the board.
Paynters is a commercial construction company working across Australia’s east coast with offices in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania operating within the government, aged care, hospitality, insurance, commercial and aviation sectors.
Recent notable project deliveries include the new renal and endoscopy unit for Townsville University Hospital, Pimlico TAFE redevelopment, Whitsunday Coast Airport terminal expansion and the new Calliope State High School.
Paynters is completing projects at the hospital, James Cook University, the Aitkenvale PCYC as well as putting the finishing touches on Townsville Turf Club after it sustained significant damage during the 2019 floods.
