Totally wild fun

-

IF your family is keen for an adventure that’s totally wild, there’s no place closer to home than Billabong Sanctuary.

Excited to be reopening in time for the school holidays, all your favourite animals are waiting to greet you.

Owner Bob Flemming says the rangers and animals have been missing all the attention and excitement from your visits. He assures Billabong is the safest low risk place for family and friends to enjoy the great outdoors.

“With 9ha or 25 acres, we have no restrictions on numbers of guests for the day,” he says. “During our closure, all of the rangers have been looking after our animals and ensuring they have had the best of care.”

Due to social distancing regulations, the daily wildlife talks will not be taking place these holidays but something new will be happening at Billabong. The rangers will take on a new job as roving rangers, walking around the sanctuary with Billabong’s birds, mammals and reptiles.

“You can expect to meet up from the bird department, Scarlet the eclectus parrot, Roxy the barking owl, Skwimm the tawny frogmouth,” Bob says.

“From the reptile department, there will be pythons, blue tongue lizards and small crocodiles. From the mammal department – possums, dingoes and wombats.”

There will be different animals being taken around the park on different days starting at 9.30am through to 2pm. While you can touch the animals, there’s no holding permitted. “Koala Crescent will be open twice a day free of charge for selfies with a koala, but due to regulations, unfortunately no touching,” Bob says.

“Turtle feeding for the kids and young at heart will be twice a day.” There is the choice of booking online or paying by credit card on the day. To make admissions run smoothly on the day, download and print the contact details form and complete the form before arriving.

The Blinky Bill Cafe will be open for takeaway snacks or you can bring a picnic lunch.

Opening hours for the holidays are 9am to 4pm.
