As well as flights from Melbourne there are caravans with Victorian number plates driving around Townsville. It will be a miracle if we don’t have coronavirus here again soon. Our border is closed to Victoria! Why as well as caravans are flights from Melbourne coming here? This situation is causing much confusion in the community. This needs to be looked at now before we have a breakout of the virus here and restrictions are again imposed on us. We all have worked very very hard to be where we are please let’s not relax just yet.

MEG PIMLICO

Since coronavirus was detected in this state, the economy has been crippled. North of Rockhampton the virus has been under control for about three months, give or take, though still kept in lockdown until recently, economic ruin for many businesses. Now, this rabble in control of Queensland, open the skies to a state with a spike in infections. After being told, ad nauseam, by Palaszczuk, the decisions being made were for our good, I would love to know the thought process (or lack of) behind the decision to allow up to 180 per flight, potentially infected, people from Melbourne, into Townsville. Must be for our good, i can only assume! This government is absolutely clueless! GEC 4814

I hope our three MLAS were at the airport to welcome our Victorian visitors on Sunday!

NH WEST END

Whose bright idea was it to allow a plane from Melbourne to land in Townsville on Sunday? Are the passengers and crew being quarantined for 14 days? We do not need an outbreak of COVID19 in Townsville.

GIGI/ANNANDALE

When Townsville never had a COVID-19 case and no deaths we were in total lockdown.

She would not let anyone in or out. Now that there are massive outbreaks in Melbourne she allowed in planeloads of them. What is it with Labor, do they go to some circus clown classes before you’re passed to be a premier or local MP? Because this takes a special kind of stupid I must say. The three Muppets here have got to have had a say in this. If not, why? And will Townsville families be blamed if we get a outbreak? You cannot write this in a Hollywood script. Thank you Stewart, Harper and O’rourke. We better be safe.

GLENN 4810

Queensland needs a higher fence with Victoria if flights can get in.

JEFF VINCENT 4812

Well said Bear from Ayr Sat TTE we just did a weekend trip to Mackay and the number of Victorian grey nomads we passed already was ridiculous. I don’t know how the hell they got here so quickly. It staggers belief but as you said surely for everyone’s good they could stay home for one grey nomad season. We won’t miss them but clearly their arrogance is unbelievable. They’re here now so look out.

MALCOLM KIRWAN

Marty, Mt Louisa. Check your facts, it was the Premier’s call for Queenslanders to return from Victoria and go into quarantine, my concern is that while we have police at highway border crossings, who is manning the byways? Two Victorians tried to get into SA over the weekend. Do you get it now MHV 4810?

CARL. PIMLICO.

Oops! Horn vs Tszyu fight in Townsville shortly. Pray that we don’t receive a Victorian pandemic fright.

M J REYNOLDS MT LOUISA

Will the charges of not distancing against the pubs etc stand up in court? Can’t be one law for some but not others (protest marches)? M. THOMAS 4824

Instead of super stadium they should built a super max jail. A super max jail would employ 1000 people in full time jobs. How many does the stadium employ? Not many. All our jails are full . They need to build a Super Max jail and lock up all car thieves rather than letting them out. And make it tough, no TVS no contact with the outside.

GARRY WEST END

All those calling for the scrapping of preferential voting obviously haven’t thought it through. With first past the post and, say, five candidates it is mathematically possible for a candidate to win with 21% of the vote. That would be rare, of course, but still possible. Would you consider that to be fair and democratic? And don’t forget that regardless of “how to vote” cards, the voter is the one who chooses who gets their preferences.

PHIL 4807.

Paul Green has got it right. The Cowboys have a culture of only playing one half per game that goes right back to their first season. They either condemn themselves to playing catchup football in the second half, or consider they have done enough after playing adequately in the first half. When they commit themselves mentally and physically the entire game, they are difficult to beat.

JEFF, CONDON

Crocs are already worth a lot to the Hinchinbrook Shire by culling the pigs that eat the sugar cane. A croc watching tourism business in Ingham would be the cherry on the cake.

ROGER, MT LOUISA

I can’t possibly be the only motorist who gets infuriated sitting at intersections waiting for red right turn arrows to go green despite there being no cars in sight in the oncoming lanes. It’s nuts that I’m considered a good enough driver to be let loose on a single lane highway but not able to judge when it’s safe to cross a double lane intersection in town without the “help” of right turn arrows.

AZZA 4812

What is going on with Townsville traffic lights? Bundock Street is diabolical either way from the Pallarenda lights. All the lights have turn arrows for no cars and pedestrian walk for no pedestrians! The wait at each set of lights is extraordinary. Can the people who program these lights actually drive on the road to see the chaos they have created?

KRISTOFF ROWES BAY

Now thanks to the pandemic and greedy shoppers, (panic buyers) shopping has lost its magic for me. Also, a lot of the old cameraderie has gone, sadly it will never be the same again.

D. BILTON W/END

I have to question journalists when they report fatal shark “attack”. How do they know? Did they interview the shark? Sharks or any seafaring animals don’t “attack”, they just find a food source and have a red hot go, they don’t wake up in the morning and say “oooh, feel like attacking something today”, they wake up and go “I’m hungry…hang on what’s this…looks like it might be tasty…how easy is this…right on my doorstep? I’ve said it before... remedy to death by shark, don’t put yourself on a platter for them! And don’t paint them out to be anything other than what they, hungry and looking for a feed.

KERRY WEST END

Bullies, what is with school principals who appear to side with the bullies, not the student who is (still being abused) in a safe and respectful school. I can see why parents of bullied students feel the system is terribly wrong. Forget headmaster and teachers go straight to the police station, and if you don’t get satisfaction see you local MP.

CRIS WULGURU

Council is taking about rates relief, but we’ve seen rates go up for many commercial properties, waste and water go up, and no change to the early payment incentive. Seems only the inner city gets the help while the rest of us keep suffering.

DARRYL H, PIMLICO

A picture says a thousand words. Page 77 TB Saturday, Oats with arm out as if to shake hands and Seibold with arms crossed staring at him. We all know what the arms crossed means.

RUSS BUSHY BEACH.

Jean Pimlico – if only you knew what constraints child safety worked under, be it policy, legislation or funding, then you would comprehend why it’s simply not possible to protect every vulnerable child in our state. Instead of criticising those doing their very best to facilitate an unachievable goal, maybe take a swipe at those in power who ensure our dysfunctional society thrives year in year out. WHITTY TB4/7 Jean at Pimlico re Dept Child Safety: Do you seriously believe that the department has that sort of power? All their significant decisions have to be endorsed by the judiciary. This point is constantly overlooked by those calling for positive action. Also where do all these removed children go? There are not enough foster carers & governments have closed institutions. Do you have spare rooms at your place? Think on it. Be pragmatic not judgmental.

RJ, CBD

Re property sales. Let’s hope it’s Australian citizens who are buying it and not foreign interest as what happened in other countries during the pandemic. I find it hard to believe the average Australian can afford to buy property even with grants in this recession.

TM. CURRANT

Dear Jenny, as a valued ratepayer can you “please explain “how taking away our tip and transfer station from Jensen and giving us less value for our rates means we should pay more? We should be getting more bang for our buck, not less.

SMITHY 4818

Sorry Jean 4812, but I am looking forward to my fortnightly visit to the pokies. And I will actually be helping the economy.

RUBY, RASMUSSEN

?? ?? Greeny – when are you going to use Taumalolo as a lock and have him run at and terrify the smaller outside backs – you are wasting opportunity playing him as a bash and barge front rower.
