Parties fail us on crime

-

THE LNP leader is saying: “It’s about rehabilitation … it is important we teach them life skills so we break the cycle of grief,” she said.

“I won’t apologise for being tough on crime.”

How is this being tough on crime?

These southeast Queensland parties and their leaders have no idea.

I do believe there should be some sort of rehab and to teach the kids life skills, which is something #KAP has been promoting for ages but don’t do it here.

We want the KAP relocation sentencing policy to address these things specifically out of our town or anywhere near it. These kids have caused everyone so much grief, why should we not adopt the “do the crime, do the time” philosophy and send them to a very remote location. We have had the policy in place and ready to go for ages.

Closing down bail houses? Fantastic. What do we do with all these kids now, where do they go? This hasn’t been addressed by either party.

Rehab, wearing security bracelets, teaching life skills are all part of our plan.

There must also be help and some sort of assistance given to parents. They have to learn that these kids are their responsibility and not the general public’s.

Parents who do not participate in programs should be charged with failing to provide for their children.

It has to be said that there are a lot of great parents who provide love and support but the kids just can’t be handled.

They might have tried everything possible to no avail.

Not all bad kids come from bad homes.

The ALP states it had already put in place a newly-selected oncountry program and reversed the Youth Justice Act after community pressure. Are you serious? The ALP did not change the part of the legislation that our community was begging for and that was the breach of bail.

The three ALP members sat at my Take Back Townsville forum night in March and looked us all in the eye and said they would not support changing the breach of bail.

Come October 31, you all
