Vigilance required for virus

-

THE coronavirus pandemic has changed our world and everyday Australians are seeing things they have never seen in their lives before.

When most of us thought the pandemic was done and dusted in this country a second wave has now hit Victoria.

Yesterday it recorded another 134 new infections on top of nearly 200 the day before.

The state has reimposed stage three restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne and some regions to bring the new surge under control.

In Queensland, many have been calling on the Premier to open the borders and they will be, but not to Victorians and for very good reason.

While most of us would not have liked to have gone through what Mount Low resident Lee Develyn had to endure on Tuesday, when she arrived on a plane from the hotspot, most would agree it’s a necessary move to keep North Queensland safe from another COVID-19 outbreak.

What is concerning though is that many other people were let go from the airport without quarantining, one according to Ms Develyn was to attend a funeral.

Why is this OK?

The problem with the control of the coronavirus pandemic from day one has been the double standards.

Don’t wear masks they don’t protect you, yet doctors and nurses wear them all the time.

Don’t go to a cafe for a meal, but it’s fine to go to Bunnings and run around with hundreds of other people.

North Queensland has to be 28 days coronavirus free before relaxations can be made but southeast Queensland doesn’t.

It’s not an easy job controlling this pandemic but residents should be entitled to some level of transparency on how the decisions are made.

The last thing we want is a second outbreak here – that would be the final straw for many businesses.
