Closing our borders not the right answer

-

COVID-19 is now global and been around for a while with facts known in regards to transmission, effects and who are the most vulnerable but what puzzles me is the emphasis on reporting by stating the numbers that tested positive. Why?

I have from day one also questioned closing state borders because this has not been a common practice for other highly contagious viruses like the various flues we endured annually.

Inevitably, a nation’s economy and wellbeing of its population are more critical than a virus. For example, flu has killed more people globally then COVID-19.

Yet because of scientific advice, again based on computer modelling that is proven to be questionable, there will be a global depression that will limit the advance on humanity for decades.

Locking the state borders and isolation postcodes, as seen in Victoria this past week or so, will never control the virus, only a vaccine will do this, and many will suffer a depression.

I am sceptical of science using modelling. I believe the wrong approach we have witnessed with state border closures and self-isolation is not the answer. Take special care for the most vulnerable, allow the infection to do its thing because nature has the herd immunity capability.

By adopting these changes I am sure we can minimise any depression effects and remove any catastrophic effect on humanity and wellbeing. ROBERT BUICK, Mountain Creek.
