SHOW SETS SIGHTS ON MONSTER 2021

-

WHILE COVID-19 put an end t to plans l f for this month’s Charters Towers Show, the organisers are looking ahead to a big comeback next year.

Towers Pastoral Agricultural and Mining Association president Lachlan Mcallister said the committee was forced to shelve all plans for 2020, but they were hoping to make their

140th event in 2021 a smashing success. ““Hopefully Hope restrictions will lift sufficiently and we’ll be right to go,” Mr Mcallister said. “We were fully planned and ready to go and then COVID hit and we had to put everything on hold for 12 months.

“This is probably the first year we were prepared so early in the year.”

There are additional concerns for the committee, with fears many traders and entertainers will not be on the circuit next year.

Mr Mcallister said the committee had been speaking with the Showman’s Guild, which had indicated several of its members would not be returning to the circuit next year.

“Not all of the showmen will be coming back,” he said. “And COVID-19 has knocked a number of the entertainers out of the market.”

In the meantime Mr Mcallister hopes they can secure some of the top acts they had coming to this year’s show for 2021.

“All the monster trucks were coming back for another run,” he said.

“Everything was fully booked. We had the Crack Up Sisters due to return and they were keen to come up again.

“But we’ll have to see what’s going around next year because we’re last on the line before the Ekka and we don’t know yet what’s coming our way.”
