Police op a success

POLICE have charged three people in Charters Towers, including a juvenile, in relation to drug traffickin­g following a two-year local operation.

Charters Towers Police Station Acting Senior Sergeant Tony Hosie said Operation Romeo Zoot had resulted in charges relating to the traffickin­g of a dangerous drug and possession of marijuana.

Acting Senior Sergeant Hosie said a man, police will allege is long known to have been a marijuana dealer in the town, was arrested and appeared in Townsville Magistrate­s Court on Saturday.

Joshua Scott, 32, has been remanded in custody and will appear in the Charters Towers Magistrate­s Court on October 6.

Hosie said a

Charters Towers woman, aged 28, will appear in Townsville Magistrate­s Court on August 17 also charged with drug traffickin­g and supplying dangerous drugs to minors.

He said police from the Major Organised Crime Squad, Charters Towers Criminal Investigat­ion Bureau, general duties officers, Tactical Crime Response Team and the Dog Squad took part in the investigat­ion and the subsequent arrests.

He said police believed the arrests would have a positive impact on the Charters Towers community.

Sergeant Hosie said part of the allegation­s presented in court would be that those charged had been supplying drugs to minors.

Another person has been charged with permitting their property to be used in relation to drug offences.

“Some assets have been seized as part of the operation,” he said.
