been waiting since 2019 for his third scrap.

“It’s been frustrating with COVID, I’ve been training a lot so I’m really keen to get back in there,” Hughes said.

The 18-year-old supermiddleweight will touch gloves with fellow Townsville fighter Noah Hooper.

Hughes can’t wait until the pair exchange leather.

“Ever since I first saw him fight I’ve wanted to face him,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward it, I think it’s going to be a to great fight. Hopefully a lot of people come out and support us.”

Hawks teammate Peter Dintignana will also feature on the card.

The welterweight is looking to make up for a split decision loss in February which has weighed heavily on his mind.

“I felt good and strong in that fight, but I gassed out in the last round,” Dintignana said.

“I’ve been doing a lot of high-intensity training since then on the rowing machine, bike and going on park runs. I’ve been giving it all I’ve got to make sure I’m ready.

“I went to a fight night the other week and it just made me hungrier to get back into it.”

For Clancy, the night will be take on added significance as his 33-year-old daughter Jess steps through the ropes for the first time.

“She said ‘if I don’t do it now I’ll never do it’,” Clancy said.

The amateur card marks the start of a big 10 days for the Hawks team, with a few members selected to help out with the Jeff Horn versus Tim Tszyu fight when it rolls into town.

“It’s great that they’ve brought this event here, it’s going all over the world,” Clancy said. “For these young guys and girls to play a part in it is humungous.”

Young fighter Tyler Shaw said she was keen to be exposed to a professional environment.

“It’s going to be so exciting,” she said.

“I think Tszyu will get the win, I see he has been training really hard.”
