Old styles will be hot at vintage race day

- TRUDY BROWN

THE track will be a hive of activity again on Saturday as the Towers Jockey Club prepares to host the C&B Designs Vintage Race Day.

Organisers are expecting the racing to be hot on the track, following a successful and well-attended event in July.

Club spokeswoman Sally Kirkwood said they were hoping the competition would be equally as hot in the fashions on the field competition, which is set to showcase the ladies, gents and little ones in their vintage best.

Once again, patrons are limited to 100 people, due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Ms Kirkwood said those who attended the July meeting had a great time.

“Our vintage theme race day is set to celebrate the history of our wonderful club,” she said.

“And with our upcoming renovations coming, now is a great time to look back.

“We cannot wait for another action-packed day of racing and to once again see the club and grounds bustling with life.”

There have already been good nominations for the fiverace card, with a couple of new trainers expected.

Ms Kirkwood said the trainers were bringing horses from near and far again.

“Acceptances will be finalised on Thursday, so we’ll have a better idea of how things stand then,” she said.

“But it’s certainly looking good again and we’re excited about the support we’ve received from trainers, the great sponsors and wonderful supporters, without whom we couldn’t have such a terrific event.”

Gates will open at noon. Social distancing and hygiene measures will be enforced throughout the day.
