Defence contract to create local jobs
FOUR tenderers have been short-listed to deliver the Stage 1 construction works under the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Facilities Program at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville.
They are CPB Contractors, FKG, Lend Lease and St Hilliers. The State Government’s Defence Jobs Queensland organisation is now alerting local industry to potential opportunities for work that exists under the tenderers.
“By connecting with those in the supply chain, it will allow tenderers to further develop their tender applications and gain an understanding of the range of trade and technical numbers, expertise and ability required to support this project,” Defence Jobs Queensland said in an alert.
The proposed works include a new three-storey simulation centre and lecture theatre, shelter for housing containerised tactical training systems, high-voltage substation and modifications to existing services infrastructure, electrical, water, gas, sewer and ICT.
The Armoured Fighting Vehicle Facilities Program is delivering buildings and infrastructure at Lavarack Barracks to support the introduction of a new generation of armoured fighting vehicles.
The proposed works at Lavarack will be part of Stage 1 of the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Facilities Program, which will deliver the initial facilities supporting the introduction of the new Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle being procured under the Army acquisition program of Land 400 Phase 2.
The CRV “Boxer” is in production at Rheinmetall’s Ipswich facility and will be introduced to service in early 2024.
Land 400 Phase 2 will procure 225 vehicles, of which 52 will go to 3rd Brigade and nine will go to Joint Logistics Unit North at Lavarack Barracks.
Experienced trades and businesses are being encouraged to contact the tenderers by August 30 to express interest in supporting the project.
