- TRUDY BROWN

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing following an alleged pursuit and crash involving an ATV.

Police observed an ATV side-by-side buggy allegedly being driven by a 23-year-old Charters Towers man in Mary St at 11.34pm on Wednesday.

Charters Towers Police Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Breitkreuz said police attempted to stop the vehicle as they followed it from Mary Street on to Oxford Lane, across crown land, into Bellevue and Fraser streets. He said the driver allegedly attempted to cross the Rotary Lookout before crashing into a tree stump.

QAS were called to the scene and the man and a female passenger in her 20s were transported to the Charters Towers Hospital for treatment.

Sergeant Breitkreuz said police seized the vehicle and a sample of the driver’s blood was taken for further testing.

DRUG CHARGES

A Townsville woman will appear in the Charters Towers Magistrates Court next month after she was allegedly found in possession of restricted drugs. Police intercepted a vehicle at 4.30pm on Tuesday at Blacks Road, Broughton, before searching it.

They allegedly located drug paraphernalia, drug utensils and a number of tablets.

Sergeant Breitkreuz said a 49-year-old woman was charged with possession of a restricted drug and possession of property suspected to have been used in the commission of a crime. She will appear in court on September 21.

Police allege the man was in possession of a drug utensil and a pipe when he was questioned about hooning in a Holden sedan in Stubley Street.
