Champion Whincup one of us
TOWNSVILLE certainly has a reason to lay claim to Supercars champion Jamie Whincup as an honorary North Queenslander.
The champion has won 12 races on the Reid Park circuit — four times more than any of the other drivers, including Mark Winterbottom and last year’s winner Scott Mclaughlin.
When the concept for a Supercars event on the streets of Townsville was first put forward to V8 Supercars Australia in 2006, few thought it would come to fruition.
It has created an economic boom for the region, both annually and with the development of supporting infrastructure in the area.
More than a decade and 12 race meetings later, and not only has the Townsville 400 become firmly entrenched on the racing calendar, but Whincup has shown he is king of the track.
The Supercars’ all-time record holder is a crowd favourite and a Queenslander to boot.
Legacy Week offers chance to help
When our nation’s soldiers commit to their country they do it with the support of their families.
When tragedy strikes, Legacy Australia is there to support their families with whatever confronts them.
This week it is Legacy Week in Australia.
It’s easy to think all of the beneficiaries of Legacy Australia’s efforts are elderly widows, but the organisation supports so much more than that.
Legacy raises awareness and funds for the families of incapacitated and deceased veterans young and old.
As a Defence community, Townsville knows all too well there are lots of young families who would need the help of Legacy should the worst happen to their loved ones.
The Townsville Bulletin has thrown its support behind Legacy Week this week.
We very much hope that you enjoy the series of posters that will be printed in each edition highlighting the importance of Defence to the region.
