Tough to catch this top drawer performer

- LEE PEARCE

HE is a smooth operator and Sir Suave will be given every opportunity to put in a polished performance after the box draw.

The two-year-old runner, trained by Greta Thomson, has drawn the rails run out of box one and will be hard to beat on the lure in the TAB R/W over 498m. He can begin well on his night, and if he can squeeze into clear air he will take some catching.

Joffa’s Mayhem (3) for Robert Lound is racing consistently over the journey, she won here a couple starts back in 29.37, and will prove a big danger to the favourite.

Peter Thief (4) for Paul Smith has raced in NSW, SA and Victoria before coming here, he has won over the 531m at Gawler as well as the 515m at Angle Park, he has had two starts over the 380m for two fourths.

Mysterious Molly (7), also out of the Smith kennel, has good form over the journey after she ran third on Tuesday night behind Gold Assassin.

After running a massive third in the Townsville Cup last week, Danny Preh will give Tipsy Four another run around the Townsville Showground.

Following a short freshen up, the bitch will be starting favourite when the boxes open in the Metroll 3/4th Grade over 380m. But she won’t have it easy, with Merv Parker’s Santorini Miss (1) determined to make it two placing finishes in a row. John Strachin (2) for Andrew Wooler can also show good pace from the boxes. He ran second behind Major Gibson on Tuesday night and has each way claims.

Race 8 is the G.B.D Concrete Services Best 8 over 380m. This is a good sprint race with some smart beginners. Madness (2) for Robert Lound pings the lids at the jump and hits the ground full of running and will be a strong place chance. As Magic Is (6) for Kerry Griffin has very good box speed, she should be one of the front runners.
