A MAN has been ambushed in his backyard and bashed over the head in a violent home invasion at Currajong.

Townsville Police were called to Hammett Street, Currajong about 8.30pm on Monday to reports of a robbery.

District duty officer Senior Sergeant Matt Lyons said multiple offenders arrived at the home in one car and confronted the residents in their backyard.

The Townsville Bulletin can confirm a gun was pulled by an offender.

A fight broke out between a 42year-old man who lived at the home and some of the offenders.

The man was bashed over the head with a “wooden implement” in the scuffle and suffered head and jaw injuries.

The offenders stole jewellery from the home before fleeing in the car.

The vehicle, which had stolen number plates, was found burnt out in Rasmussen about 12.30am yesterday.

Photos from the scene show the car completely destroyed by flames in a vacant area of land at the end of Santal Drive.

The grass around the vehicle was still smoking more than 12 hours after it was set on fire.

The injured man was taken to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.

The other two victims, a 48-yearold man and 32-year-old woman, were not taken to hospital.

No complaints have been made to police but Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.

Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Inspector Chris Lawson said they had made no arrests yesterday afternoon.

If you have any information about suspicious activity in the areas, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
