A BOWEN resident returned home to find their door jimmied open and a safe full of jewellery gone after a thief broke in at the weekend.

Bowen Police officer-incharge Craig Shepherd said the break-in occurred on Saturday between 10am and 12.30pm on The Soldiers Road.

The resident went out and locked their home, but when they returned they saw dents in their security screen and noticed their sliding door had been forced open.

Senior Sergeant Shepherd said the home had been rifled through and a small safe from a bedroom had been stolen.

The safe contained various pieces of jewellery, including watches, necklaces and bracelets Sergeant Shepherd said.
