MP praise unfounded
I REFER to the article on Page 5 of the Townsville Bulletin and the editorial of the same paper on Wednesday.
I have to say from reading the article I have obviously missed something.
I cannot remember either of the two mentioned people having ever attended a Driveit open meeting. It must have been in their dreams that they gave their full support to the project but I will stand corrected.
One that does spring to mind though was the large contingent of motoring enthusiasts who attended the rally at Reid Park on November 12, 2017 when all three Palaszczuk representatives were conspicuous by their absence.
That would have been a golden opportunity with such a large crowd present for all three of them to get involved and demonstrate their full support for Driveit like other members of differing political parties did.
One of the persons named, Mr Harper, advises that he has been discussing the project with our local community for quite some time. What, about five years, Mr Harper?
He goes on to say that he has advocated for this funding and was pleased to deliver it.
Mr Stewart also advised that he welcomed the funding, saying: “We’ve been selling the case of funding Driveit NQ as an investment in road safety that would bring in other positives.”
Firstly, who has Mr Stewart been selling it to and why has it taken five years? The accidents and the need for driver safety training have not raised their ugly heads overnight.
I can recall numerous letters being published in the Bulletin regarding the need for the driver training part of the complex to be instigated without delay owing to the number of deaths on our roads but I cannot for the life of me recall any public support either in print or in the electronic media from the two Palaszczuk representatives at the time or over a five-year period and then all of a sudden we have pennies from heaven.
It’s absolutely nauseating the depths these people will sink to to get their names in the paper.
The pair of them have had five years to do something and apparently did nothing, unless they lobbied the premier in confidence?
Now a cynical person would think all of a sudden some form of election was in the wind.
The editorial, “Money for precinct a great call”, comments that the two Labor members returning to contest their seats, Aaron Harper and Scott Stewart, need to be congratulated on their efforts in campaigning for the precinct.
Please, what efforts? I must have missed something during the past five years about campaigning and then after five years the premier has suddenly decided the precinct is a good idea and quite possibly could save lives.
As the editorial advises, the Townsville Bulletin has been writing stories about the project as far back as October 2015 and nothing was done by the Palaszczuk representatives or her government until now.
Please do not treat us all as idiots by expecting to be congratulated on your campaigning.
