Navarro takes on Port role
TOWNSVILLE lawyer Connie Navarro has been appointed to the board of the Port of Townsville.
Ms Navarro’s appointment is one of 26 announced by ministers responsible for stateowned entities.
Another notable appointment is former Townsville mayor and current Townsville Hospital and Health board chair Tony Mooney to the board of North Queensland Bulk Ports.
Businessman Brad Webb has been reappointed to the Port of Townsville board.
Ms Navarro has lived in Townsville for more than 20 years, founding boutique law firm Connie Navarro Legal last year.
She is secretary of regional development organisation Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Development Zone.
Mr Webb ( right) founded the BM Webb Industrial Property group and charity Food Relief NQ.
Port of f Townsville chair Renita Garard said that Ms Navarro’s appointment would add diversity, provide legal skills and a strong understanding of industries in the region.
Ms Garard said Brad Webb had been a vital part of steering the direction of the port for the past decade and his experience in construction and development was invaluable.
Following the appointments, the state government said 54 per cent of positions on government boards were now filled by women – eclipsing a 50 per cent target and up from 31 per cent when it came into government in 2015.
“These appointments, along with initiatives like our regional Women on Boards events, demonstrate our government’s resolve in strengthening gender balance,” Treasurer Cameron Dick said.
