$2.5m pledged for water park in Ayr

- MIKAYLA MAYOH

Burdekin Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin and Burdekin MP Dale Last discuss the water park included in the Anzac Park Master Plan which Mr Last says LNP will fund if it wins the election.

A COOL idea that has been splashed around the Burdekin district for years is $2.5m closer to becoming a reality.

A SS Yongala themed water play space, included in Anzac Park masterplan released early this year, will become a reality if the LNP win this month’s state election.

Burdekin MP Dale Last said the water play area was a project the community, and particularly parents, had been begging for.

“I want to see families

enjoying their leisure time here in the Burdekin because that means more quality time for them and more support for local business,” Mr Last said.

“Rather than leave this project as a concept, the LNP will provide the necessary funds to get it built and would expect work to start as soon as possible.

“Not only will this project be great for families, it will also create jobs and boost the local economy during construction.”

Burdekin Shire Mayor Lyn

Mclaughlin said the council was finalising detailed plans for the water play area and the funding commitment pro

vided the chance to progress to construction.

“The water play space is part of the vision that will transform Anzac Park into a regional attraction, offering residents and visitors alike more reason to play, live, work and invest in the Burdekin,” she said.

“Council welcomes commitments of funding.

“As we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial that local, state and federal governments work together to kickstart projects and keep all

Australia working.”

The water play space was listed in stage one of three in the master plan to revamp a 17.5ha area.

The area spans Anzac Park and includes adjacent sporting grounds and the Ayr Pool.

The master plan also included a potential pump track, fitness circuit, new amenities and pathways.

“This master plan ties all of those spaces together in an area that will be enjoyed by people of all ages for many years to come,” Cr Mclaughlin said.

I WANT TO SEE FAMILIES ENJOYING THEIR LEISURE TIME HERE IN THE BURDEKIN BECAUSE THAT MEANS MORE QUALITY TIME FOR THEM AND MORE SUPPORT FOR LOCAL BUSINESS.
