On track for weekend of racing

- MIKAYLA MAYOH

IT’S shaping up to be a big weekend of speedway action at both Brandon-based motorsport facilities.

Pioneer Park Speedway will host the Queensland Formula 500 State Titles while the Brandon flat track will be the place to be for bike action as it hosts the 2020 Burdekin Motorcycles Qld Track and Dirt Track Championship.

Ayr Motorcycle Club’s Melissa Fry said a delay in racing during the season and the success of past meetings meant the club had been able to secure all four Queensland titles: Junior Track, Junior Dirt Track,

Senior Track and Senior Dirt Track.

The event is set to run across the weekend, with track titles rounds and finals on Saturday and dirt track rounds and finals on Sunday.

Pioneer Park Speedway’s Tony Patmore said restrictions on crowd numbers had been eased just in time for the weekend which meant the Formula 500 titles would be able to be staged before a full-capacity crowd.

Mr Patmore said he was expecting up to 3000 spectators to turn out for the Saturday night event which would feature the best racers in the state.

The Formula 500 will be the second meet the track has held for the year, and the second under new owners Mr Patmore and Deon Lynd.

Mr Patmore said about 30 entries had been submitted for all events this weekend, including frontrunners Kaydon Iverseon and Brodie Voss.

“Kaydon was running times very close to lap record last time he raced here,” he said.

“He will be one of the frontrunners.”

Racing will be on from 10am at the Brandon flat track, with gates opening to Pioneer Park at 3pm for a 6.30pm race start.

Pioneer Park Speedway owners Tony Patmore, Deon Lynd and caretaker Shane Johns are gearing up for this weekend’s Queensland Formula 500 State Titles.
